November Poems

Featured in the Forgiving Nature Post, Issue Four.
With Me

Watch a bee float
Sidewards and up
A seed-puff on the breeze

See her step on air
Down to a daisy

This white petal
Bends with the touch
Of her little bee toe

Later when our bumble lifts
And buzzes away
Be here still with me
End Times

Don’t scare me
People who believe they’re coming soon
Scare me

An escape hatch, heaven, I get it
But you think you know God’s timing?
A thousand years ago
Mothers watched all their children
Bleed with plague
And knew the end times had arrived

As did the village on Scotland’s shore
Before it was made ash by Vikings
The Arawak on Bahamas
Lost all to pale strangers
Rife with civet’s gland
Sporting syphillis

Until you’re being sucked up
To heaven
Take care
Really take care
Of the air, the water
The future of a child
The Susan Bird

I see says the sparrow
Chirp cheep churrah
I am glad for this warm spot by the rain barrel
I see I see I see again
I hop I peck I look around

I am glad for my time in the grass
In the air
For the mate who replied to my song
Who made, with me, life
From humble meals of worms

When my mate died
I sat wings folded
In the gold green shade of a susan flower
Less thanks
Less song

I am a bird
A sparrow three inches tall
My eyes turn to Robbie
And he says thank you
